On The Error Analysis Of Prepositions In The Chinese-English Translation Of Legal Texts

Based on the practical C-E translation of three local regulations of Shanghai Free Trade Zone commissioned by the Legal Translation Center ofthis writer's university,the thesis is established on the Error Analysis theory proposed by S.Pit Corder,a British linguist.This thesis spends much efforton revealing puzzles,several proposition errors in the first English translation version after post-translation proofreading,such as incorrect collocation,omission or abuse of propositions.For the purpose of exploring reasons behind these errors,the author sorts out some puzzles when making the proposition choices in this translation practice.Besides,the author has designed a questionnaire on Sojump platform(Wenjuanxing in Chinese pinyin)for those who have received formal school studies with standard English lessons for a long time and has at least passed CET4(short for College English Test band 4).And most respondents showed that they have ever read or translated legal English texts.Finally,the author proposes some skills to reduce proposition errors.The objective methods include corpus,Google Chrome,exclusive proposition dictionary and grammar books,as well as legal documents database.Subjectively,translators should have correct manners,deepen the understanding of the source text,and acquire the relevant professional knowledge to avoid excessive literal translation and other low-level translation errors.This report is expected to propose a new perspective for error analysisof English proposition or other parts of speech,to conclude some solutions to English proposition errors which can be applied in C-E translation of other social science textsandto promote the progress of China's current translation and English teaching.
