In 2009,the Ministry of Education issued the National Education Science ‘Eleventh Five-year' Plan Annual Project Guide,in which the first research topic is “organic cohesive research of each educational stage”,which shows that the Ministry of Education attaches great importance to the cohesive research of various educational stage.Junior and senior high school are two different and closely related stages in elementary education. In it,English is one of the three key subjects and it is of great significance to study transition.Textbooks are treated as important medium for learning in elementary education, reading text is the main part in textbooks of English subject. Therefore, exploring the cohesion of reading text in textbooks plays an important role in the cohesion of junior and senior high school. This study focuses on three major aspects: what are the differences and connections between junior and senior high school English curriculum standards? What are the current situation and existing problems of the cohesion of reading texts in the English textbooks? What is the best scheme of the cohesion of reading text in English textbooks from junior to senior high schools? To handle these three questions, this research adopts literature research method and comparative research method.First,English curriculum standards for compulsory education and English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School are studied to find the differences and connections about the reading requirements.Secondly,we have an in-depth study on the junior and senior English. This thesis analyzes English teaching materials from three levels: knowledge, competence and literacy. The knowledge level corresponds to topic arrangement, genre selection, vocabulary and syntax legibility;competence level corresponds to reading skills, and the literacy level corresponds to cultural literacy so as to find out the current situation and existing problems of the cohesion of reading text in textbooks. Finally, based on the conclusions of the above two questions, this thesis discusses effective strategies to improve the cohesion of English reading texts between junior and senior high schools, namely, effective strategies to solve the above problems.Based on the existing problems in cohesion, some suggestions are put forward.Firstly,to improve the cohesion of curriculum standards, that is to say, integrate the concept of cohesion and strengthen the communication between curriculum standard writers.Secondly,to strengthen the cohesion of textbooks, namely,to improve the systematic arrangement of topic;to adjust the length and difficulty of text reasonably and optimize the cohesion gap;to improve the proportion of native language culture and build a two-way cultural system;Thirdly, strengthen the connection of teaching. The author hopes to improve the cohesion of the reading text in the English textbooks for middle and high school students.
