After Qian Yiji's A Collection of Epitaph Biographies,and Miu Quansun's A The sequel of Epitaph Biographies' Collection,A Supplementary Collection of Epitaph Biographies by Min Erchang is an important compilation of tablet biographies in the Qing Dynasty,which collected more than 800 peoples' biographies from the middle and late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China.It is of great literature and historical value.As an important part of the collection of biographies of the Qing Dynasty,it is also helpful to understand the historical value of the collection of biographies of the Qing Dynasty.The main research work of this paper is as follows:First,to investigate the family history and scholarly works of Min Erchang,to present the background and conditions of the compilation of this book.Born in Ganquan(now Yangzhou),Jiangsu province,who is the author of A Supplementary Collection of Epitaph Biographies,A Chronicle of Mr.Jiang Ziping's life,and Lei Tang Ci.Min Erchang was the editor-in-chief of Beiyang's Official Newspaper,and lately served as the secretary of the Presidential Palace in the Republic of China.The stable source of income and richness in data provided a good condition for him to compile the biography.The second part is about the process of the compilation of the book and the style of compilation,in order to study the inheritance and development of the style of the book.Through the investigation of relevant historical facts and materials,the author sorts out the book making process of this book and understands the compilation style of it by Min Erchang.To be specific,the compilation style of it mainly includes the following categories and the new categories:inheriting the previous works of "delete content and keep catalogue ","mutual views" and other forms,inherit prime minister ","literature","YiMin" and other categories;In the new categories,the original four categories of "clan","meritorious official","vassal official" and "guest general" were canceled.and the new four categories of "envoy","scientists","partisans" and "Buddhist" were added.In the category of "women",a new section of "expedient" and were added.The social development in the late Qing dynasty was taken into consideration.The third part investigates and studies the content and value of this book,in order to understand the collection's situation and ideology.This part makes a list of the collected biographies of the tablet,and explains the incomplete collection of the collected biographies of the supplementary works of Qian Yiji and Miu Quansun,and newly added categories,as well as the lack of the collected biographies of Min Erchang.In the end,the paper discusses Min Erchang 's collection ideology,that is,Min Erchang was influenced by the ideological trend of opening and equality in the republic of China.The fourth part discusses the influence of this book on the compilation of the Qing Dynasty and later generations.It can supplement the biographical Material of recent people and provide references for the study of social and local development.To have a clearer understanding of Min Erchang s academic attainments and the literature value of this book.All in all,the writing of this paper,emphasis on both the overall understanding of A Supplementary Collection of Epitaph Biographies and the specific analysis of this book.Finally,this paper made an affirmative evaluation,and pointed out the incompleteness and the limitations of it.
