As an important part of high school English grammar,subjunctive mood is challenging to learners with the complicated verb infections,so it has been a difficult point in high school English grammar teaching.In addition,the researcher finds that subjunctive mood is still taught by traditional teaching methods such as grammar translation and deductive method and most students learn it by rote.This results in separation between learning and using.The production-oriented approach is a foreign language teaching theory with Chinese characteristics proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang,aiming at improving students' comprehensive language application ability.Many experts and scholars have applied the production-oriented approach to practice and verified the effectiveness of it with data.Therefore,based on the theoretical framework of the production-oriented approach,this study tries to apply the production-oriented approach to high school English subjunctive mood teaching.Through empirical research,the author explores the effect of the production-oriented approach on high school English subjunctive teaching by addressing the following questions:1.How does the production-oriented approach affect to subjunctive mood teaching in high school students' acquisition of English subjunctive mood?2.What is the influence of learners' English proficiency on the effectiveness of the production-oriented approach to subjunctive mood teaching?3.What is the influence of learners' willingness to communicate on the effectiveness of the production-oriented approach to subjunctive mood teaching?In this study,two classes were selected from a high school in Qufu with no significant difference in English proficiency as the experimental class and the control class respectively.The experimental class adopted the production-oriented approach,while the control class adopted the traditional 3P(Presentation,Practice and Production)teaching method.Then the teaching lasted for a month for the two classes.In this study,the researcher first adopted MacIntyre's(2001)questionnaire to test learners' level of willingness to communicate.Then two tests(pre-test and post-test)were used,and the pre-test is used to measure the students' English proficiency.Finally,SPSS software was used to conduct statistical analysis on the collected data of pre-test,post-test and questionnaire,and the researcher draw the following conclusions:1.Compared with the 3P teaching method,the production-oriented approach can promote students' acquisition of subjunctive mood.2.The production-oriented approach has more influence on the acquisition of subjunctive mood by high-proficient learners than by low-proficient learners.3.The effect of the production-oriented approach on the acquisition of subjunctive mood by students with high willingness to communicate is more significant than the acquisition by students with low willingness to communicate.And the method enhances students' willingness to communicate.This study demonstrates that it is feasible to apply the production-oriented approach to high school English subjunctive mood teaching,which has a positive impact on the acquisition of the subjunctive mood by high school students,and further confirms the scientificity and advancedness of the production-oriented theory.This study also bring some new enlightenment to high school English grammar teaching.
