English vocabulary plays a vital role in the English learning process of senior high school students.Without sufficient vocabulary,the learning of English knowledge is impossible.At present,most senior high schools adopt traditional English vocabulary teaching methods,but this kind of vocabulary teaching method cannot well promote students to devote themselves to English vocabulary learning.In recent years,western scholars have proposed multimode teaching method on the basis of multimode discourse analysis theory,and tried to combine multimode teaching method with foreign language vocabulary teaching to make up for the shortcomings of traditional vocabulary teaching.Researchers have applied various modal expressions such as audio and video,pictures,gestures,music and other visual,auditory and movement modes to teaching.Multimode combination and teaching are combined to form a new teaching method——multimode teaching method.Scholars at home and abroad generally believe that the combination of multimode teaching method and foreign language vocabulary teaching can stimulate students’ learning motivation,improve students’ learning interest,and is helpful to improve students’ learning performance.As a new teaching method,multimode teaching method can also make up for the shortcomings of the traditional teaching mode and guide the classroom from dull to flexible.Based on the above background,this study applies multimode teaching method to senior high school English vocabulary teaching,and explores the influence of multimode teaching method on the breadth and depth of senior high school English vocabulary knowledge through the following three questions.Three research questions are as follows:(1)Does multimode teaching have an impact on the breadth of vocabulary knowledge of senior high school students? What’s the impact?(2)Does multimode teaching have an impact on the depth of vocabulary knowledge of senior high school students? What’s the impact?(3)Does multimode teaching method have an impact on the attitude of senior high school students to English vocabulary learning? What’s the impact?The participants in this multimode teaching experiment are 103 students from two classes(class A and class B)of a high school in xintai city,Shandong province.According to the requirements,class A(51 students)is taken as the experimental class and class B(52 students)is taken as the control class.The multimode teaching experiment is carried out in class A of the experimental class.During the multimode teaching experiment,the multimode teaching experiment,questionnaire survey,interview,mathematical statistics and other research methodsare used,and the traditional English vocabulary teaching mode is adopted in class B of the control class.Before the multimode teaching experiment starts,the students of the two classes are first tested with the vocabulary knowledge breadth and depth pretest paper to understand the current situation of students’ vocabulary learning.After more than four months of multimode teaching experiment,the students of class A and class B are tested with the vocabulary knowledge breadth and depth posttest paper,and the students of class A in the experimental class are investigated with questionnaires and interviews.Finally,the data obtained from the pretest and posttest papers,questionnaires and interviews are analyzed and then conclusions are drawn.The results show that after more than four months of multimode teaching experiments,the students in class A of the experimental class have significantly improved their English vocabulary knowledge breadth and depth test results compared with class B of the control class.According to the results of the English vocabulary knowledge breadth test,the English vocabulary of the students in class A of the experimental class is 247 more than that of the students in class B of the control class,especially in the acquisition of verbs and adjectives.This shows that the multimode teaching method can promote the improvement of the students’ English vocabulary knowledge breadth level.From the results of English Vocabulary knowledge depth test,there is not much difference between the two classes in vocabulary meaning association.However,the results of vocabulary collocation and vocabulary application in class A of the experimental class are significantly higher than those in class B of the control class,which shows that multimode teaching method can promote the improvement of students’ vocabulary collocation and vocabulary application level.The results of the questionnaire survey and interviews show that the students in class A of the experimental class generally approve of the multimode teaching method and believe that the multimode teaching method can promote the learning of English vocabulary.From the research results,multimode teaching method has more advantages than the traditional teaching mode.I hope this research can provide new ideas and new methods for senior high school vocabulary teaching,and provide more help for senior high school English teachers to change their teaching thinking.
