Zora Neal Hurston is one of the important figures in American Literature in the20 th century, and the most important black female writer in the Renaissance of Harlem.Black people were first sold to America as slaves. The description of African Americans in traditional American novels is often tragic. In the 1960 s,American academic circles started a "Hurston revival" movement, which made Hurston's works enter into the list of American literary classics, which had an important impact on black literature and women literature, and also made them have important significance. In American culture,Hurston has the double marginal status of black and female writers, and her creative activities have multiple important meanings. In the early days of African American literature and culture,Hurston had his own unique pursuit and varied themes. In the Harlem Renaissance movement, which mainly expressed racial discrimination and racial confrontation,Hurston's theme of literary creation was ahead of others.First of all,she chose to pay attention to the existence of black people and the spiritual characteristics of black people from the perspective of common people.Secondly,in the era of black women's obedience, she focused on the survival of women, especially the relationship between the sexes in marriage and family, explored the awakening of black women, wrote the growth of black feminist consciousness, and shaped the image of black women who seek for themselves and actively pursue the realization of their own values.Compared with other black writers,Hueston pays more attention to the living conditions of black women and the pursuit of their self-worth,which is reflected in her two novels Jonah's Gourd Vine,Their Eyes Were Watching God and other works.Their Eyes Were Watching God depicts a positive black woman Jenny, who constantly seeks for herself through her own efforts and finally realizes herself. The novel was later hailed as the first black feminist literary work.In addition,as a writer who made great contributions to the study of black folk culture in the Renaissance of Harlem,Hurston deeply realized that to develop black literature,it is necessary to collect black folk culture, excavate the spiritual connotation of black folk culture-independence,freedom,equality,enthusiasm and positive personality, and construct positive black national culture and personality image.Through the collection of black dialects, black folk customs and folk songs, and the sorting and recording of religious rituals and folk sermons,Hurston shows the black folk culture. She has a wonderful description and display of black folk culture in the folk research texts such as Tell Me The Horse,Mules and People and other novels.Hurston believes that black folk culture has been perfectly displayed in women,so she combines black women's self pursuit with black folk culture to find their own way out.characters and expressions of Hurston's works. The first part mainly analyzes the multiple themes of Hurston's works from the perspective of race and gender;the second part focuses on exploring the main characters of Hurston's works from the perspective of gender theory, including black women's images and black men's images;the third part mainly discusses the unique artistic style and techniques of Hurston's literary workscombining black cultural tradition. The conclusion part of the paper summarizes the influence of Hurston on the future generations from the framework of black female literature tradition, and we can feel the unique charm of black female writing from her works.
