The ultimate goal of high school English teaching is to develop students' skills,such as listening,speaking,reading,viewing,and writing,as well as their comprehensive ability.In terms of writing,it can truly reflect the author's comprehensive ability and express his thoughts.However,the current situation of high school English writing is poor.There are many problems with students' writing,such as separation of reading and writing,emphasis on structure ignoring content,copying templates.Therefore,how to make students interested in writing had become the focus of teachers' attention.And coherence is the most important indicator of writing quality.It is necessary to carry out targeted research and find out ways to improve students' coherent expression ability in writing.Continuous writing indicates the direction for reading and writing teaching,in addition,previous studies have confirmed the effect of promoting learning.These research results also provide theoretical and practical support for this research.However,there are not many researches on whether writing training such as continuous writing can effectively improve the coherence of students' foreign language writing.Secondly,the previous research perspectives on continuous writing are conducted in universities.It has not been widely used in high schools.So,empirical research is still lacking in high school to further confirm the effect of continuous writing on students' English writing promotion,especially on the coherence of English writing in high school.This article takes sophomore as the research object,through the training of students' continuous writing tasks to study their impact on the coherence of English writing in high school.This research is based on the theory of Input-output hypothesis and Interaction hypothesis,and combined with the previous research results and practical experience of predecessors' continuous writing,it proved that continuous writing has a positive impact on the coherence of English writing in high school.Questionnaires,experiments,and interviews were used to explore the following questions:(1)What are the problems in the coherence of students' writing(vocabulary,sentences,text structure and related content)?(2)How does the continuous writing affect the vocabulary coherence of students' writing?(3)How does the continuous writing affect the coherence of students' writing in terms of text structure?(4)How does the continuous writing affect the coherence of students' writing in terms of content?This study is conducted an experimental study on 80 students from a middle school in Binzhou.There are two sets of questionnaires,divided into pretest questionnaire and post-test questionnaire.Before continuous writing task training,the author conducts pre-experiment teston the students,and post-test the students after the task training.Finally,the author randomly selects eight students for interviews to supplement the shortcomings of experiments and questionnaires.The author uses the descriptive statistics,Independent-Sample T Test and Paired-Sample T Test in SPSS23.0 software,to analyze the data through the collected questionnaire data and composition test data before and after the experiment.At the same time,the following conclusions are obtained combined with the interview results:(1)Continuous writing has a positive effect on improving the coherence of students' writing,which is specifically manifested in four aspects: vocabulary,sentence,discourse structure and related content.In terms of vocabulary,students' vocabulary accumulation is increased,spelling errors are decreased,and word selection is more accurate.The students switch from copying the words in the given text to imitating the words.And students learn to use connectives to make sentences more fluid and logical,and make the composition more coherent.Secondly,students' writing focuses more on the tense and grammar with the above in terms of sentences.In addition,in the post-test writing,students show the rigor of the chapter structure,the connection is more logical,the structure is clear,and the article has a strong coherence.Finally,students pay more attention to detail in the content,so that the composition is rich and full,and more coherent.(2)Continuous writing can also change students' attitudes towards writing.It can stimulate students' expression desire to a certain extent,make students' think more divergent,improve students' writing confidence,and make write very interesting.Students begin to pay more attention to coherence in writing.And the students themselves feel that it is necessary to persist in continuous writing exercises.This study explores the impact of Continuous writing on high school English writing coherence,which can provide some inspiration for improving the teaching quality of high school English writing and writing coherence for high school students,while laying a practical foundation for further research in this field.
