Order And Chaos

This paper takes Frank Stella as the research object and takes the externalform and internal direction of spiral as the clue to study Stella’s artistic creation.Stella’s works can be roughly divided into two periods:plane surface andthree-dimensional surface.And the spiral can be divided into two directions:inward order and outward chaos.This paper tries to analyze the origin andcharacteristics of Stella’s works’ evolution in the two periods,and extends it tothe connection between the exploration of painting possibility and contemporary spirit.The paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter mainly expounds Stella’s plane surface period of the inward order,starting from the spiral formand the origin of stripe painting,and then analyzes the characteristics of the combination of spiral and stripe,and explores the significance and evolution of plane spiral.In the second chapter,the paper discusses the period of the three-dimensional surface,first analyzes the origin of the three-dimensional spiral,and then analyzes the characteristics of the works brought by thethree-dimensional spiral,and then compares the pleat theory of Deleuze with the spiral of Stella which explains each other.The third chapter mainly explains the influence and enlightenment of Stella on my creation.Finally,in the conclusion part,the paper combs the full text,discusses the promotion of Stella’s art history in depth,and considers his inspiration for art creation and contemporary life.
