The concept of "Chinese nation" is an identity symbol developed in the early 20 th century.It reflects the cultural identity and spirit in modern China,and it also creates a new starting point for national construction.By tracing the origin of the concept of "Chinese nation",this paper analyzes the development and establishment process of the concept.This paper investigates the connotative meaning and popularizing of the word,and specifically discusses its final socialization process in the modern history of China.From the perspective of cultural philosophy,we research historical values and practical significance of the concept.Furthermore,we focus on the historical background of the rise of nationalism in the late Qing dynasty and Liang Qi-chao' important contribution.It further analyzes different attitudes between the constitutionalism and the revolutionaries.One hand,we contrast the historical context before and after the revolution of 1911.Another hand,we discuss the development and popularization of the concept during the Republic of China.The following three points are important: Sun Yat-sen's advocacy of the concept;the promotion of government;the approve of people.From the connotation of the concept,this paper makes an analysis of the history of idea.The research will help us to curb the few internal separatist tendencies and provide useful reference for the possible problems in the process of building community of common destiny for all mankind.
