"Flatness" is a method of expression in painting creation, which refers to a flat visual effect after eliminating the sense of depth in the picture.Western classical painting has been studying how to create a real three-dimensional spatial effect on a flat medium.Starting from Manet, painting gradually returns to two-dimensional planes and media, returns to the art ontology, and continues to move towards purity.Returning to "flatness" and moving towards "purity" have become the characteristics of modernist painting. This thesis will use the woodcut creation of the campus landscape series to study the flat expression of the concrete theme in printmaking works. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter mainly expounds the origin of the subject and the status of the collection and arrangement of landscape prints and flatness theory research at home and abroad, and puts forward the arguments. The second chapter is a detailed explanation of the creative process of the campus landscape prints, including the previous conception and creation. The third chapter is the thinking and gains after creation, including the author's thinking on the theory of flatness and the relationship between concrete and abstract, and the last chapter is a summary of the whole thesis and creation. The innovation of this thesis lies in the pursuit of a flat feature of the figurative iconography through the creation of prints on the theme of "Campus Landscape" series. At the same time,it can show the intrinsic relationship between the figurative theme and abstract expression.
