As an important interactive tool for computer interfaces,icons have become an important link between users and computer operating systems.Therefore,exploring the influencing factors in the icon recognition process is conducive to improving the icon's cognitive efficiency and enhancing the user's interactive experience.This research starts from the cognitive complexity of the icon itself and the time pressure faced by users when they actually use the icon.It integrates theoretical knowledge such as cognitive psychology,information processing theory,and cognitive load theory.The influence of icon cognitive complexity and time pressure was experimentally studied.The study adopted the classic graph-word repetition test paradigm in icon research,and combined the time pressure with the dimensions of specificity,familiarity and semantic matching in cognitive complexity to design the experiment.Among them,experiment 1 uses 2(time pressure: high and low)× 2(representation,abstraction)× 2(semantic matching,semantic mismatch)in-subject design,mainly exploring the specificity and semantic matching in icon cognitive complexity The influence on icon understanding under different time pressures.Experiment 2 also used 2(time pressure: high and low)× 2(familiar and unfamiliar)× 2(semantic matching,semantic mismatch)design within the subjects to explore icon familiarity and semantic matching for icons under different time pressures Understand the impact.The experiment uses Eprime2.0 to write the experiment program,and the dependent variables are two indicators: response time and correct rate.The study reached the following conclusions:(1)Time pressure significantly affects icon understanding.High time pressure has longer reaction time and lower accuracy than low time pressure.(2)The specificity of icons significantly affects the understanding of icons.Concrete icons have a higher accuracy rate and shorter response time than abstract icons.(3)The icon familiarity dimension significantly affects icon understanding.High familiarity icons have a shorter reaction time and higher accuracy than low familiarity icons.(4)There is an interaction between time pressure and icon familiarity in the accuracy rate,and the accuracy rate of strange icons under high time pressure is significantly lower than that of low time pressure.(5)Semantic matching has a certain effect on icon understanding.The response time of semantic matching is shorter than that of semantic mismatch,and the accuracy is higher.The research results also prove that time pressure and cognitive complexity do affect the understanding of icons,and designers should fully consider these factors when designing icons.
