Naipaul's Hybrid Writing Research

Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul is a Trinidad-born British writer whose ancestors came from India.He won the Nobel prize in 2001.He has published more than 30 works in his life.Naipaul experienced the span of multi-cultural space in his life,which created his multi-mixed cultural identity,and also made him form a mixed feature in his creation.As a cross-border survivor,Naipaul straddled the three geographical and cultural space of Trinidad,India and Britain.Trinidad's collage culture,Indian ethnic culture and British "adoptive mother" culture all influenced Naipaul's survival and creation,he couldn't fully identify with any one of them,and couldn't completely get rid of either.For Trinidad,the place where he grew up,Naipaul,on the one hand,showed an attitude of rejection,on the other hand,took its history and reality as the material of his creation to express his concern for it.For India,the place where his ancestors lived,Naipaul came here again and again to seek his roots,but he mocked and feared the poverty and turbulence in Indian society.For Britain,Naipaul,one the one hand,advocated and relied on its developed material conditions,on the other hand,criticized the decline of its civilization and the backward and turbulence it caused to the colonial countries.Naipaul's state of being influenced by multiple cultures and unable to fully integrate into any of them created his diverse and mixed cultural identity.Naipaul's diverse and mixed cultural identity profoundly influenced his literary creation and made his creation present the characteristics of hybridization,which was mainly manifested in two aspects,namely,the style and narrative.In terms of writing style,Naipaul formed his mixed style.On the one hand,Naipaul merged his growth experience and family immigration experience into his novels,making his novels have autobiographical color.On the other hand,He integrated historical events into his works,so that historical narration and novel narration could be organically combined.In addition,Naipaul also added fictional,legendary and dramatic techniques to the documentary works of travels.In the aspect of narration,Naipaul used multiple narrative perspectives,diversified narrative order and nested narrative structure in his works,which made his works present the characteristics of mixed narration.Naipaul's multicultural identity created the hybrid characteristics of his creation.This hybrid writing style enabled Naipaul to effectively show the life of the marginalsurvivors like himself and reveal the history of the marginal areas forgotten by the world,thus arousing people's attention and reflection to the little-known people and things covered by history.Therefore,the study of Naipaul's hybrid writing also has certain social significance.
