Researchers have done a lot of researches on electronic navigation system. As for the information representation way preferred by individuals with different spatial cognitive styles, previous literatures have not given clear results. In addition, the influence of visual field size on navigation behavior,as well as the interactive influence of visual field size and navigation mode on individual spatial knowledge acquisition, has not been clearly concluded. On the basis of previous researches, the influence of individual differences and electronic navigation mode on spatial knowledge acquisition and navigation behavior is discussed through two experiments by using computer dynamic simulation of electronic map navigation interface. The results are as follows:In experiment 1.Firstly,the subjects were classified according to the familiarity and spatial cognitive style questionnaire(FSCS),furthermore learned to adjust and nonadjust the electronic map of navigation mode in random order, moreover completed the judgments of relative direction task(JRD),scene and orientation dependent pointing(SOP)and map drawing task. The results showed that in the accuracy index analysis, the main effect of navigation mode was not significant, the main effect of spatial cognitive style was significant, the main effect of task type was significant, and the interaction between spatial cognitive style and task type was significant. The landmark style subjects performed significantly better in the SOP task than in the JRD task, while the path style and the survey style subjects showed no striking difference in the SOP task and the JRD task.In response time index analysis, the interaction between spatial cognitive style, navigation mode and task type were significantly marginal. In experiment 2,the subjects had the same classification process as in experiment 1,following they learned electronic maps with different visual field sizes, adjusted and non-adjusted navigation modes in random order, after that completed the tasks of JRD,SOP and map drawing. The results of accuracy analysis showed that the main effect of spatial cognitive style was significant, the main effect of field size was significant, the main effect of task type was significant, and the main effect of navigation mode was not significant. The interaction between spatial cognitive style and task type was significant. The interaction between task type, field size and spatial cognitive style was significant. In response time index analysis, spatial cognitive style has significant interaction with field size.Based on the results of experiment 1 and experiment 2,the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)The previous classification of individual spatial cognitive style preference is effective, and the individuals with landmark spatial cognitive style are more compatible with the SOP task.Individuals with survey spatial cognitive style are more compatible with the JRD task.Path style is between landmark style and survey style.(2)The interaction between navigation mode, task type and spatial cognitive style has a significant impact on the spatial cognitive response time of individuals. The landmark style and path style subjects show the same performance, both prefer electronic navigation with adjusted mode, and the JRD task response time is shorter. While the survey style subjects preferred electronic navigation in non-adjusted mode, and the SOP task response time is shorter.(3)Visual field size, task type and spatial cognitive style influence spatial navigation behavior of individuals. In the face of the large amount of information in the field of view, landmark style and path style subjects need to spend more time to integrate. However, due to the high level of spatial cognitive differentiation, the survey style individuals can judge and use the information better.
