The Characteristics And Applications Of Mixed Analysis Methods In Comparative Politics

There are two research methods in the field of social science: qualitative research and quantitative research.With the rise of “positivism”,quantitative research has gradually occupied an important position in the field of comparative politics.Quantitative research in the first half of the 20 th century dominated.It was not until the 1950 s and 1960 s that the post-behavioral political science revolution initiated the qualitative research to return to people's attention.The debates about qualitative research and quantitative research have become more and more intense with the complexity of the research objects.Although both qualitative research and quantitative research have their own words,it is undeniable that with the increasing complexity of research objects,the simple use of quantitative research may neglect key factors for the pursuit of commonality,and the use of qualitative research alone will be too Highlight individual cases without universality.Therefore,the mixed use method has become a new trend.What should be solved now is the aspect that cannot be touched by pure qualitative or quantitative research.Is there any other way to make up for it,that is,the "qualitative comparative study" of foreign academic circles.This kind of research method has surpassed the traditional qualitative and quantitative disputes,broadened the research field on the basis of making up for the defects of both sides,and solved the dilemma of "small N number".This paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative and quantitative research,and leads to the mixed research method-qualitative comparative analysis method.Qualitative comparative analysis is based on set theory and Boolean algebra.It is a method for analyzing a moderate number of cases and is applied in the field of comparative politics in order to be able to explain multiple factors.Through the description of the principles and methods of qualitative comparative analysis,we try to analyze the transformation mode of East Asian countries to prove its use value.
