China has formally entered into the list of aging countries around the new century. The latest data for the year 2017 as obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the population of our country now reaches 1.39008 billion, among which 158.31 million people are equal to or more than 65 years old, indicating a elderly dependency ratio of 15.9%.In the context of too fast aging speed, how to solve the issue of providing supports to nearly 200 million retired people, will be an important task faced by the country in the process of its development. At present, family and institutional supports provided to the retired elderly are considered to be the country's mainstream mode of providing supports to the retired elderly.Family supports,as a complete family-dependent mode of providing supports to the retired elderly,it has greatly satisfied their emotional need since it does not require the residents to leave their old living environment. However, the low service specialization for the family mode of providing supports to the retired elderly not only makes it impossible to provide more professional care to the elder residents, but also this may increase the burden of offspring in taking care of the elderly.Though the institutional mode of providing supports to the retired elderly can provide specialized products and services to the retired residents,a number of factors have resulted in the low lodging ratio for those institutional nursing homes, which includes the resource shortage for public funded nursing homes,as well as the difficulties in getting such entrance approval and low service level yet with high fees for those privately operated institutional nursing homes.Along with our country's increased aging speed, traditional modes of offering supports to the retired elderly by families and institutions can no longer meet the increasing demands for those supports, whereas the community supports for the retired elderly are gradually favored by urban residents as it provides the elderly with specialized products and services including basic daily cares, spiritual consolation and medical cares by relying on the community as its platform to integrate advantageous regional resources.By sorting out the research results achieved by scholars in the past, this paper finds that the attention of our scholars was mainly concentrated on the eastern coastal areas in terms of the studies on the will of the retired elderly for community supports, with emphasis on senior residents as their objects of studies, but there is very few studies targeted on the middle west or middle aged urban residents.Nevertheless,Shaanxi Province,as a big province in the northwest region of China, the speed of its aging process ranks the top among the major large cities. In light of this, this paper carries out a survey in Xi',the provincial capital of Shaanxi Province, and further by selecting the urban residents of the city's 5 districts as the samples,it attempts to explore the will of the retired urban residents to choose community supports and its influential factors. This paper adopts methods including literature research, questionnaire survey and empirical analysis. The independent variables are divided into five categories, and respectively, they are individual characteristics, family characteristics, economic characteristics, characteristics of living environments and characteristics of the cognition about community supports for the retired elderly.14 factors are set under those characteristics.SPSS22.0 is first adopted in the empirical analysis part to make descriptive statistics and then a binary logistic regression model is established to carry out regressive analysis in order to find out the influential factors that have significant impacts on the will of the retired urban residents to choose between the modes of supports they would like to receive. The research results have found that more than 70%of the retired urban residents are willing to receive community supports. There are 7 factors with a significance level(P value)lower than 0.05,which are sex, monthly per capita income for a family, the distance from the public service facilities within a community, the relation with neighbors, the degree of understanding about community supports for the retired elderly, level of satisfaction with the supportive services offered to the elderly by a community and the view on the prospect of the development of the mode of providing supports to the elderly by a community-those factors have significant impacts on the community supports provided to the retired urban residents.
