Patterning ability is an important part of children's mathematics cognitive ability,which is the foundation of children's mathematics learning.Early childhood mathematics education is one of the important trend of emphasis on the importance of reasoning,its main purpose is to let children feel mathematics is rational,meaningful and logical,and cultivate the ability to solve the problem.This paper discusses the development of children's patterning ability and capacity of reasoning and the relationship between them,so as to provide theoretical support for the development of children's model ability and capacity of reasoning.In this study,128 children aged 4 to 6 were randomly selected from four major classes and four middle classes of a kindergarten affiliated to a university in xi 'an city.Research mainly adopted the test method,investigates the 4-6 years old children's patterning ability and capacity of reasoning,the development situation of characteristics including age and gender differences,and to explore the relationship between patterning ability and capacity of reasoning.The results show that:1.The average of patterning ability of children aged 4-6 was 8.31.The score of 4-6 years old children's patterning ability was approximately normal distribution.For children aged 4-6 years,the pattern replication is the simplest in the three dimensions of the patterning ability,and the pattern development took the second place and the dimension of pattern variation is the most difficult.2.The average of reasoning ability of children aged 4-6 was 20.04.The average of reasoning ability of children aged 4-6 was approximately normal distribution.Children aged 4-6 got high scores in perceptual discrimination and similarity comparison,and got low scores in comparison reasoning,series relationship and abstract reasoning.3.The patterning ability and the reasoning ability of children aged 5-6 were significantly better than those of children aged 4-5.There was no significant difference on the patterning ability and reasoning ability between boys and girls aged 4-6.4.Children aged 4-6 did not show significant differences in the pattern task of using toys and cards.5.There was a significant positive correlation between the patterning ability and reasoning ability of children aged 4-6.The results of regression analysis showed that the pattern development dimension in the patterning ability had a significant predictive power to the reasoning ability.Series relationship and comparison reasoning of reasoning ability have significant predictive power for patterning ability.
