The rapidly increased social network services provide convenience for people to communicate and acquire knowledge.Online academic communities can help researchers to effectively obtain the recent research perspective and to solve difficult problems encountered in their research.Meanwhile, researchers make good use of the research strengths of each other through cooperation in online academic communities.Currently, online academic community is becoming an important platform for academic exchanges and knowledge sharing.Online academic communities provide researchers with social tagging service to help them acquire, organize and manage information. This tagging mechanism may change their knowledge management behavior, and even affect the influence of the article being tagged, thus affecting the dissemination and sharing of scientific knowledge. Therefore, this study collected tag related information from CiteULike and article related information from Web of Science. Then, this study analyzed the relationship between the social tag(include tag quantity and tag classes)and the citation counts of articles, and explored the integrating influence of subject areas and tag classes on citation counts using ANOVA.In addition, this study introduced other factors of citation counts into the research model to make the study become more scientific and more persuasive. These factors include download count, subject category, publication year and the number of references. This study also analyzed influence degree of these factors on citation counts via multiple linear regression. And,through difference model, this study verified the correlation between tags and citation counts. The study found that there is very significant impact of social tags on citation counts. The influence is not only about influence of tag quantity, but also influence of tag’s semantic content. In addition, this research also discovered that the subject category has a negative effect on citation counts.Based on the conclusion of this research, scientific researchers and service providers of online academic communities can take certain measures to influence the citation counts of articles, and then strengthen the organization andconstruction of online academic community websites, improve the quality of information services, and promote the spreading and sharing of scientific knowledge. In addition, this study supplements the research in the field of citation analysis, and therefore has certain theoretical significance.
