The improvement of technology has evolved to mobile banking. The significant increase of using electronic banking transactions through mobile phones has shaping people’s life as it enables people to have access to banking services anywhere, anytime as well as it conduct business more efficiently in China. Thus, each and every customer with a mobile device alone with internet connectivity for it accessibility can enjoy it.Most literature, considered mobile banking adoption as a newly emerging platform that yet to reach a high level of becoming the main channel of transaction contact that addresses banking needs of customers.Technology adoption theory has been proposed in the literature to explain mobile banking adoption but institutional pressures have not been addressed.Given the mobile transactions attractiveness, online payment has grew over 33.8 percent on yearly basis since 2014.It is therefore necessary to investigate the institutional pressures and behavior intention towards mob’ile banking adoption with the moderating role of perceived risk.Drawing upon behavioral intention and institutional theory, the study proposed a model to explain the three variables of institutional pressures-coercive,normative and mimetic-and how they affect mobile banking adoption including how such effects are moderated by perceived risk. For this purpose,a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from participants on the internet.A self-administer online survey strategy was used to collect data via WeChat and QQ from the participants. The data was reviewed by two Ph.D academic researchers with expertise on mobile banking.Chinese intimacy with mobile technology adoption is highly observed thus giving Chinese people especially students more outlook to employ it in daily life.A pilot study was conducted among groups of experienced users of mobile banking to pre-test the questionnaire.A URL survey liInk was sent to 500 potential users’ of mobile banking via WeChat and QQ.A total of 425 respondents were returned and accurately filled. The questionnaire items used seven-point Likert scale ranges from 1=strongly disagree to 7=strongly agree.LISREL 8.5 and SPSS 16.0 statistical software were used to carry out the investigation. The proposed model was tested using survey data of the returned 425 respondents. The results reveal that institutional pressures are positively associated with mobile banking adoption;but normative pressures have negative effects on mobile banking adoption. In addition, behavioral intention mediates institutional pressures and adoption of mobile banking. The findings provide valuable insights for bank managers who manage mobile banking services. It mainly explores the effects of institutional pressures, behavioral intention, and perceived risk on mobile banking adoption by applying institutional theory.Based on the analysis, two types of institutional pressure, coercive and mimetic, are significant towards mobile banking adoption, while normative was found insignificant. The study contribution is an expansion of applying the institutional theory at the individual level, from its previous usage on mobile banking adoption at organization level.Additionally, the research model contributes to the literature by incorporating the integral roles of perceived risk into the adoption of technology. The study is limited despites its valuable contributions. The findings are mainly based on data collected from mainland China which may affects its generalization.
