Project scheduling has been extensively studied in project management. As the fast development of multi-project theory, the multi-project scheduling has been extended from operation level to strategy level in recent years and thus several new multi-project scheduling problems have been proposed from different perspectives. This work outlines an integrated view of the optimization problems in multi-project scheduling and addresses the status of primary scheduling problems in multi-project management.Firstly, the relationships of scheduling problems in the hierarchical structure of multi-project management are investigated.Positioning them in the hierarchical structure and corresponding with the new concepts of project management, portfolio management and program management,a framework addressing multi-project scheduling are presented.Secondly, several primary optimization problems in multi-project planning, including portfolio selection and planning,rough-cut capacity planning and resource constrained multi-project scheduling problem are reviewed. Finally, some deficiencies in this field are pointed out,and the future research direction is proposed, while the tactical level raises some questions,we compare some cutting-edge algorithms to do the relevant research and developed its own algorithm for solving. Many multi-project organizations are capacity driven, which means that their operations are constrained by various scarce resources. An important planning aspect in a capacity driven multi-project organization is capacity planning.By capacity planning,we mean the problem of matching demand for resources and availability of resources for the medium term.Capacity planning is a very useful method to support important tactical decisions. We present a capacity planning model in which aspects such as capacity flexibility, precedence relations between work packages, and maximum work content per period can be taken into account. For this model,we discussed the algorithm to optimize resource allocation scheme.Mining resources through optimization process show, illustrate the need for Rough-Cut Capacityplanning for the project management of multi-project organization.
