The Impact Of Institution On Export Competitiveness

Since China's accession to the WTO,export trade has played an important role in China's economic development.In 2018,China's total import and export reached a new level,as the result of China's full play of the comparative advantage of the labor force and its continuous integration into the global value chain.However,facing the rise of labor costs and the increasingly severe international trade friction,the large but not strong export trade and the lack of sustainable development are becoming unavoidable.Institution is currently recognized as a new driver of export,but the literatures on institutional factors for export competitiveness are mostly concentrated at the national institutional level.Therefore,this paper uses China's provincial import and export panel data to analyze the impact of institution on export competitiveness.The thesis consists of six chapters.The first two chapters include the introduction,along with the concepts,measurements and theories of institution and export competitiveness,and related literature of the impact of institution on export competitiveness.The third chapter analyzes export competitiveness and various aspects of institution for each province.The fourth chapter analyzes the affecting theory of institution on export competitiveness.The fifth chapter establishes the measurement model of export competitiveness affecting by institution,and makes an empirical analysis of the provincial-level import and export panel data of China during 2009-2017.In this chapter,the benchmark model studies the impact of various institutional indicators on export competitiveness,while the extended model studies the impact of interaction between institutions and control variables,and which between institutions and regions on export competitiveness.The research shows that,on the whole,the improvement of institution has a significant role in promoting export competitiveness;specifically,the relationship between government and market and factor market development have a significant positive impact on export competitiveness.By improving infrastructure and increasing investment in scientific research,we will promote the positive promotion of institutional improvement to export competitiveness.According to the theoretical analysis and model regression results,the last chapter provides feasible suggestions for increasing China's export competitiveness from the perspectives of government functions,financial systems and legal systems.
