As market competition becomes increasingly fierce and the environment changes rapidly,promoting creativity is emphasized as an important way for knowledge-based teams for insistently maintain high-level effectiveness.Leadership in organization has important impact on creativity on both individual and team level,and researchers have drawn their eyes to the relationship between them.Authoritarian leadership is unique and popular in Chinese organizations,and it represents deep insights of Chinese culture.Taking authoritarian leadership and creativity as core concepts,this study explores the relationship and influence mechanism between them from a social information processing perspective.This study uses an empirical research method,involving 54 knowledge-based teams and 434 individuals in Chinese enterprises.Firstly,this study found the negative correlation between authoritarian leadership and creativity on both team and individual level.Secondly,the authoritarian leadership inhibited intrinsic motivation which promoted individual creativity.And authoritarian leadership also inhibited shared leadership which promoted team creativity.Organizational valuing of creativity moderated the relationship between authoritarian leadership and intrinsic motivation,which also moderated the relationship between authoritarian leadership and shared leadership.This study makes contribution to theory of leadership and creativity.Meanwhile,it has important implications for creativity and leadership development in Chinese enterprises.
