Abstract/Summary:
A good understanding of the subsurface litho-facies distribution is important for hydrocarbon exploration. Data collected from drilled boreholes are used in identifying lithology, rock density, resistivity, and fluid contents. However, the weight of the collected data declines in the inter-well regions, because the radial depth of penetration of any logging technique is only a few feet away from the borehole.; The objective of this study is to integrate well-log and seismic data, which are relevant to the distribution of the Unayzah litho-facies. Seismic attributes play a role in characterizing the facies distributions between the available wells. Other geophysical techniques such as seismic facies classification and estimation of elastic impedance are used to discriminate the lateral and vertical extent of sandstone and siltstone facies within the Unayzah A member. Well log data showed that Vs provided more substantial information than Vp in disclosing the lithology variations.; Based on the results obtained from the well and seismic data, and the understanding of such outputs, an integrated model of the distribution of sand and silt was derived. In addition, a depositional model of the Unayzah in the study area was presented.
