Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presented a real-time simulation method of wind power generation system with doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) using real-time digital simulator (RTDS). A vector control strategy was proposed to realize decoupled control of real power and reactive power. Rotor side converter controlled the complex power of stator while grid side converter regulates the DC link voltage and the reactive power injected from rotor circuit. The whole wind power generation system and its controllers were modeled and implemented in RSCAD. Real-time simulation was carried out to test the system and proposed control methods.;New control strategy for low voltage ride through (LVRT) was also developed for a doubly fed wind power induction generator (DFIG). Specifically, adaptive control method was proposed to limit high peak rotor current. Furthermore, current limiters were connected in three-phase rotor circuits, which were strategically controlled by thyristor switches to counter the effect of fault on DFIG operation. Simulation results under various disturbances demonstrated the effectiveness of the new LVRT control strategies. Protective relays were also studied and tested based on a hardware-in-the-loop simulation method under system fault with relatively long duration time.
