Abstract/Summary:
Of all the known noble metal oxides, ZnO is the most interesting and versatile material, both in terms of potential applications and characteristic properties. It is also one of the very few nanomaterials which are easy to fabricate in a variety of morphologies. This work focuses on ZnO based micro/nanostructures and their potential application in the area of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), a new class of high efficiency photovoltaic devices. Branched ZnO nanostructures can be synthesized in a controlled fashion and the main creative contribution of this work was to prove the hypothesis that the branched ZnO crystals had superior photocatalytic capability when compared to primary ZnO and viewing the results from the perspective of a potential application in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and photocatalytic converters.
