Abstract/Summary:
Biodiesel has been considered as a viable renewable fuel for diesel engine used in transportation and many industrial applications. There is a need to determine the effect of the biodiesel on autoignition, combustion and engine-out emissions. In this investigation, tests have been conducted on a single cylinder high-speed direct-injection (HSDI) diesel engine equipped with a common rail injection system at injection pressures ranging from 600 bar to 1200 bar. A detailed analysis has been made on the rate of heat release (RHR) with influence on the effects of low volatility of biodiesel on the autoignition and the early stage of the combustion process. In addition, the effect of the percentage of the biodiesel on the different combustion parameters and emissions has been determined. The emissions included the gaseous emissions of total unburned hydrocarbons (THC), carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and the nano particles and agglomerated particles.
