Abstract/Summary:
A hybrid turbulence model, the Baldwin-Lomax-Smagorinsky model, is implemented in the Numerical Wind Tunnel, an in-house computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program. Data calculated in the CFD simulations are used as an input for the acoustic model developed. The acoustic model is based on Curle's extension of Lighthill's acoustic analogy and predicts flow-generated noise from dipole sources distributed over the surface of a body immersed in fluid flow. The model is validated using benchmark results of a circular cylinder experiment. The hydrodynamic acoustic signature of CFAV Quest is predicted using the model, and compared to experimental data measured in a sea trial.
