Abstract/Summary:
The mechanism of evaporation of fuel droplet has been studied. The equations to estimate the heat-up and steady state evaporation period are derived. The fuel selected for this study is n-Heptane and at droplet diameter is from 10 micron to 100 micron. Differential equations were solved using POLYMATH ODE solver (RK45). The results are presented graphs which show heat-up period and evaporation time as a function of ambient pressure, temperature and droplet diameter. It takes 0.19 milliseconds for an n-Heptane droplet of diameter 10 micron to evaporate completely. Heating up period increases with pressure at constant temperature but at constant pressure heating up period decreases with temperature. Total evaporation time is shorter for larger particle size. The rate of loss of droplet mass and droplet diameter is lower during heating up period but higher at steady state.
