Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the use of the Nest of BirdsRTM (NOB) electromagnetic motion capturing device to record three-dimensional kinematics of the upper limb during specific occupational reaching tasks. Participants performed reaching tasks to four different handle locations during four experimental conditions, which involved an immersion suit and a four-point harness. Three of the four handle locations provided 100% access, while access to the remaining location was dependent upon the experimental condition.;Based on previous studies in the literature, a calibration procedure for the NOB was developed and performed prior to data collection. This procedure is discussed and recommendations are suggested for calibrating the NOB.;Using methods suggested by Bland and Altman, this study also investigated the repeatability of the kinematic measures recorded by the NOB. The results indicated that the repeatability of the kinematic measures recorded by the NOB was good and would be acceptable for future occupational ergonomic studies.
