| This retrospective, multifaceted exploratory study examined the relationships and differences within and between groups, using client self-assessment and modified Barthel Index scores. Significant correlations at admission and discharge were found between these assessments. Significant differences were also found between scores at admission and discharge for both instruments. The study also examined the split-half reliability of the modified Barthel Index. Moderate reliability was found at admission and high reliability at discharge. This study concluded that upon admission, clients' perception of their level of independence scores did not show a strong relationship to the scores on the modified Barthel Index, but as therapy progressed, clients assessed their level of independence more closely to the modified Barthel Index. |
