In it, the migrant re-constructs his social and cultural identity and citizenship in the relationships he establishes with his homeland and new home of residency. This modified identity surface as the result of the consumption of mass media products and intercultural relationships with the habitants of the migrant's new residency and his homeland.; The study investigates the construction of identity and cultural citizenship by the Chinese immigrants in Puerto Rico, through mass media consumption of local and Chinese media products. This process is also carved out through the intercultural relations the Chinese immigrants have with the local residents of the island of Puerto Rico. Theories that explain important cultural problems such as the construction of identity, the concept of the "Other" and intercultural communication, were used to explain the complex processes encompassed in the migrant's experience. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Cultural, Identity, Puerto rico, Media, Chinese, Consumption, Construction, Citizenship | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
