Abstract/Summary:
This study examined the factors contributing to the completion of participants in the Orange County Juvenile Drug Court System. Secondary data from the Probation Department included 232 youth between the ages of 12 and 17 years old, 164 males and 68 females, of which 128 were Latino and 104 were Non-Latino White.; Results revealed that Latino adolescents are graduating from the program at a lower rate than Non-Latino White youth. This trend becomes more pronounced when gender is taken into account, as Latinas were even less likely to graduate. Adolescents whose families participated in their treatment were more likely to graduate than those whose families did not. Latino youths whose parents' primary language is Spanish and did not attend court, were four times as likely not to graduate.; This study is important to Social Work because it shows the significance of culturally and linguistically appropriate treatment in mental health settings.
