Abstract/Summary:
The paper is divided into two related parts; the first part is a detailed review of education in Pakistan; teachers, students, schools, and teacher training. It attempts to provide readers both familiar and unfamiliar with Pakistan and education in Pakistan the appropriate background and information pertaining to education in Pakistan while focusing on the current state of education, history of education policies, previous literature on education, absenteeism, and teacher training. This is done while addressing and highlighting rudimentary questions that have arisen in the debate on education in Pakistan.;The second part of the research focuses specifically on the much-overlooked aspect of teachers in primary schools and makes use of simple economic models and statistical analysis such as multiple regressions and probit iterations on secondary data sets used previously to evaluate student achievement in the same areas. In an attempt to achieve greater understanding of this aspect, specific areas are focused on; Teacher salary, teacher absenteeism, teacher achievement (as measured through teacher test scores instead of student achievement) functions are surveyed, also explored are the teacher's choice of working at a public or private school and the choice for teacher training (and level of training). In each of these areas, data is analyzed through a list of dependent to independent variable relationships where independent variables are assigned coefficients that are assigned values with statistical significance which are then used to try to explain these aspects, properties, and choices of teachers. The intent is to provide a survey of various factors and a broad overview of the factors mentioned above and includes some thought on each factor.
