Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this content analysis is to gain a better understanding of the new phenomenon of cyber bullying and internet harassment. This content analysis reviews empirical research on online harassment and bullying. This analysis included the issues of gender differences, the impact of cyber harassment; victim profile and how cyber bullying differs form traditional bullying as it relates to cyber harassment.;This content analysis revealed that cyber bullying is similar to traditional bullying in numerous ways. Although cyber bullying only accounts for one fourth of overall bullying it has the potential to have more severe consequences that traditional bullying, both emotionally and physically. This review provides information on areas in which additional research is needed to better understand cyber bullying. This content analysis provides implications of the emerging problem of cyber bullying for social workers, school administrators and law enforcement.
