The focus of this thesis is the development of a geotechnical database of the five boroughs of New York City. The database is made up of two components: the surface component and the subsurface component. The surface component consists of an ArcGIS map compiled from various geographical data layers containing information relevant to geotechnical investigations. The graphical interface shows the New York City roads, street names, railroads, city boundaries, rivers, parks, zoning districts and building footprints. The subsurface component is created from soil data obtained from over three hundred existing borehole logs providing records of standard penetration tests, geoprobe explorations, and test pits.;The purpose of the geotechnical database is twofold. Firstly, the database is to be used as a geotechnical engineering planning tool to identify existing site conditions in a timely and efficient manner. Secondly, the soil data within the extensive database can be used as the basis for further design in academic engineering projects.
