Abstract/Summary:
An empirically derived quantitative study of 185 firms active in the Open Source Security Tool (OSST) context is presented. Exploratory Factor Analysis techniques are used to extract nine types of market offers using information from the Internet and public websites of the firms. Five of these offer types are unique to OSST and the security concept of OSS: (i) Security Analysis Services; (ii) Monitoring Services; (iii) Confidentiality services; (iv) Authentication, Authorization, and Accountability Services; and (v) Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Services. The other four offer types are similar to market offers and commercialization strategies that have been identified in previous research. These four offer types are: (i) Support Services; (ii) Product Services; (iii) Hosted Services; and (iv) Project Management Services. The firms have been clustered into three main groups: (i) Consulting Service Providers; (ii) Solution and Product Creators; (iii) Hosted Solution Providers.
