The focus area covers approximately 11,038 km2 surrounding five coal burning power plants (Figure 1) that are being considered for CO 2 capture and sequestration. These power plants are part of The AES Corporation which when it was founded was called Applied Energy Services. These areas are also in the fairway of black shale gas development. Sources of the compiled data include published papers, theses, and original field data and range in age from 1912 to present.;A series of layers were created using Arc GIS software. These layers were used in the generation and manipulation of multiple maps during this study. The maps were used to aid in the comparison of structural data within the study area. The layers which were created included, but where not limited to, rose diagrams that display the frequency of fractures throughout the study area, as well as faults and lineaments interpreted from satellite images. These layers were then compiled with a weights-of-evidence statistical analysis to correlate the coincidence between lineaments (which were extracted from several different satellite images) and known and proposed structure. Structural data were collected from the field and digitized and georeferenced using Arc GIS. This software was utilized due to its ability to manipulate layers that can be added and removed as needed. This compilation of structural data is important in order to advance the knowledge concerning the structural geology of Central New York State and will be particularly useful for CO2 sequestration and black shale gas extraction. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Central new york, Structural, Data, Area, Maps | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
