Coalbed methane is an unconventional gas resource that consists of methane production from coal seams. The unique difference between CBM and conventional gas reservoirs is that it is a dual-porosity system characterized by complex interaction of the coal matrix and cleat system that are coupled through the desorption process. Coalbed methane reservoir performance is controlled by a complex set of reservoir, geologic, completion and operation parameters. To date there are very little tools to help with predicting the performance of CBM wells.; The purpose of this research was to develop a simple and reliable tool to help with gas production predictions for horizontal coalbed methane wells that are located in the Northern Appalachian Basin. Upon completion, a unique set of type curves were developed, that will allow for independent producers to evaluate the future production of their wells. A correlation for the peak gas rate was also developed in order to forecast production if no production data is available.
