Abstract/Summary:
The present research was aimed at the establishment of a novel methodology in analyzing the responses of a machining system subjected to nonlinear excitations of cutting forces. Vibrations of the work piece and the cutting tool in a machining system were investigated on the basis of a coupled cutting vibration system established in the research. For a systematic analysis, a theoretically and practically sound nonlinear dynamic system was developed in the research that included the main factors affecting the vibration in machining. A new cutting vibration model was established reflecting the realistic vibrations of the work piece and the cutting tool of a lathe-type machining system. Deflection of the work piece as a beam was taken into account for evaluating its effects on the vibration of the machining system. Moreover, the effects of the electric features of the driving motor of the machining system on the responses of the cutting vibration were also considered in quantifying the nonlinear cutting force and the relative displacement between the work piece and the cutting tool.
