This thesis focuses on developing a new method to extract elemental selenium from lake sediments. It was found that the carbon disulfide can specifically extract elemental selenium (amorphous form) in lake sediments and the highest solubility of elemental selenium in carbon disulfide was 0.64 mg/mL at room temperature. This value of solubility is very significant for determining the amount of carbon disulfide which should be used to extract elemental selenium.; To validate the method, various tests have been performed. Those tests include solubility of amorphous elemental selenium; verifying the chemical composition of amorphous elemental selenium, extraction conditions, the efficiency of digestion procedures, etc. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)... |
