Abstract/Summary:
The critical current noise of superconducting tunnel junctions has been measured in both the voltage state and non-zero voltage state and compared, motivated by the prospects of understanding the noise as it pertains to superconducting based qubits. The details of a novel measurement technique used to study the noise in the zero voltage state are also discussed. The voltage dependence of the critical current noise has been measured for several junctions and compared with other reported values fabricated using different technologies. The effect of heat-treatment on the critical current noise has also been studied for junctions exposed to various heat treatments at temperatures of 373 to 450K.
