Abstract/Summary:
This research presents an analysis of the engineering behavior of clayey soils mixed with Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) fly ashes, varying the fly ash content from 0% to 100%. For research purposes, clays with high plasticity were used as the base soil while the fly ash material was obtained from the AES power plant at Guayama, Puerto Rico. The mixtures were tested by determining the hydraulic conductivity and shear strength parameters. Based on the obtained results it can be determined that the fly ash improves the hydraulic conductivity of the clay soil. Nevertheless, it does not have a significant effect in the shear strength of the soil by remaining within the range of theoretical values for a silty clay soil.
