Abstract/Summary:
Transmission system is the major section in power system to transport the power from generation plants to load centers. It is essential to maintain efficient operation of the transmission system on both steady state and transient using different methods to improve the overall performance of the power system. In addition to construct new transmission lines, Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) are effective devices to increase the transfer capacity, improve different stability aspects and control the power flow especially for the interconnected systems.; This thesis studies the impact of FACTS on the performance of Jordanian transmission system under different levels of power exchange with Egyptian and Syrian power systems by using Power System Simulator (PSS/E).; Simulation analysis starts studying the base case and contingency cases of Jordanian power system to detect the weak buses during power exchange with other systems. This will help to determine the appropriate types and locations for FACTS devices to be installed to improve these limits. Simulation results comprise comparisons between the different approaches at different power exchange scenarios.
