Chronic kidney disease is a major health and economic burden globally. The aim of this analysis is to fill the gap in the literature and provide estimates for (1) mortality of CKD as the primary cause of death, (2) morbidity of CKD Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5, dialysis, and kidney transplantation, and (3) the proportions of RRT caused by diabetes, hypertension, and unspecified/other causes, for 187 countries by year, age, and sex. These estimates are a crucial factor to help inform public health policy decisions and the nephrology community in general, especially in countries previously lacking such estimates.
