Arbitration has increasingly become a popular method for resolving disputes between labor groups and management. As the cost of healthcare continues to rise, many healthcare organizations are turning towards arbitration as an alternative to litigation to resolve workplace differences. This project will examine the advantages and disadvantages that arbitration has to offer. As a case analysis, this paper will study an arbitration hearing between a prominent healthcare organization and a major labor group they employ and the award that was decided. Based on the information gathered, a conclusion will be made on the pros and cons of including arbitration clauses in bargaining unit contracts within healthcare organizations.
