Abstract/Summary: | |
Many Chinese families provide care for elderly family members with Alzheimer's disease (AD) based on their sense of obligation to provide such care in the family home. These families have been reported to receive limited support services due to language incompatibility. The purpose of this grant proposal was to seek funding sources for an education and outreach program for Chinese-speaking caregivers of older adults with AD or related dementias in the cities of the San Gabriel Valley, California. The objectives of this program are to increase Chinese caregivers' knowledge of AD and their ability to recognize early symptoms of AD and related dementia. The program will provide support for Chinese caregivers and assist them to access existing resources to meet the goal of improving the quality of life for older adults with dementia. This 2-year program will be conducted at health fairs and education and support groups. The potential funding source is the Archstone Foundation. |
