| This Master's thesis presents an error analysis of a learner corpus composed of L2 texts produced by FSL (French as a Second Language) students at the intermediate/advanced university level. The theme of the texts is descriptions of/experiences with bicycles, hence the title of the corpus: "Bicyclette". Errors in the usage of French prepositions are analysed in the corpus and a series of pedagogical exercises and activities is proposed to address the specific errors detected therein. The analysis and resulting pedagogical response follow a weak communicative approach and rely on traditional grammatical explanations such as presented in reference tools such as Grevisse's Le bon usage, so as to be accessible to both learners and teachers. The analysis and its findings are prefaced by an introduction to the fields of corpus linguistics and applied linguistics, specifically the area of second language teaching in North America, and of their common characteristics. |
