Abstract/Summary:
This thesis provides background and connections between Benjamin Franklin and J.P. Brissot. Brissot had a similar career path as Franklin, from publicist, to political figure during a revolution. Franklin provided an ideological mentorship; Brissot, in his drive to improve France's government, apprenticed. Franklin left an indelible impact on the life of Brissot.;Jacques-Pierre Brissot de Warville's impact on Pre-Revolutionary France is worthy of continued study. Leader of the Girondins also known as the Brissotins, the group responsible for removing the French King at the start of the French Revolution, he was integral in altering France's government. The Pennsylvania Constitution was an early document that offered Brissot inspiration to pursue the increase of human rights in France. Because Benjamin Franklin's political ideology is written into the Pennsylvania Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, the mentor-apprentice relationship from Franklin to Brissot began. Franklin became one of Brissot's ideological "fathers."...
