Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, write a grant proposal to fund an independent living skills program for emancipated female foster youth, residing at St. Anne's Bogen Family Center located in Los Angeles, California, and to assist them in acquiring the tools needed to become self-sufficient contributing members of society. An extensive literature review has increased awareness about the importance of educating this population with life skills to protect them from falling through the cracks in our society. This knowledge was utilized to design a comprehensive, independent living skills program, Step It Up, for emancipated female foster youth. A search for potential funding sources via the internet and grant databases, resulted in the selection of the Administration for Children and Families, as the best funding source. Actual submission for funding for this program was not required for the completion of this project.
