Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the racial identity development of Midwest second-generation Asian Americans in family and school contexts. Six second-generation Asian American college students were interviewed individually. The central phenomenon that emerged was that gender, family and school contexts facilitate the racial identity development for second-generation Asian Americans in the Midwest. Other important themes and subthemes are presented. Implications of the findings and direction for future research are also discussed.
