Such dinners often take place on Sunday and are a cherished tradition in this community. Unfortunately, there is a body of research that indicates that obesity, which can cause high blood pressure and diabetes, is directly related to the cuisine enjoyed in conjunction with this tradition.;Forty-four million Americans are classified as overweight; African-Americans account for 31.1% of that number (Center for Disease Control 2004).
